This is an extraordinarily rare, original 1929 vintage black and white studio promotional movie still photograph for the early Paramount Pictures “All-Talking” dramatic film, The Doctor’s Secret. The shot beautifully captures legendary actress Ruth Chatterton in an exquisite 1920s flapper-era beaded gown alongside veteran stage and screen actor Robert Edeson in formal evening attire. The reverse side features authentic period pencil notations confirming the cast and movie title, alongside a historic light blue geometric archive hand-stamp.

Directed by William C. deMille and based on J.M. Barrie’s play Half an Hour, The Doctor’s Secret (1929) is historically significant as a very early sound feature film. Because the film itself is widely considered a lost film with no known surviving copies of the footage, original studio promotional stills like this photo are the only surviving visual records of the production. The unique three-circle stamp on the back indicates it was formally catalogued within an official studio or press archive during the film’s original release period. This makes it an incredibly desirable piece for historians of early Hollywood sound eras and vintage cinema collectors alike on eBay UK.
