Item Description Regiment: 1st City of Edinburgh Artillery Volunteers (E.A.V.)

Era: Early Victorian Volunteer Force (Circa 1859–1860)

Type: Other Ranks Forage Cap Badge

Material: Authentic Die-Stamped Gilding Metal / Brass

Design: Features the Queen Victoria Crown (QVC) over a shield bearing the City of Edinburgh coat of arms. The shield is flanked by the letters “EA” (Edinburgh Artillery) and “V” (Volunteers).

Condition Report: Front: Sharp, crisp detail on the crown and shield. Beautiful natural antique patina that has not been over-polished.

Reverse: Complete with both original copper lugs (loops) firmly intact. The die-stamping is deep and clean, consistent with early Victorian manufacturing.

Authenticity: This is a 100% original period item. It is not a restrike, copy, or “museum filler.”

Historical Note: This is a scarce badge from the very beginning of the Volunteer movement in Scotland. The 1st City of Edinburgh Artillery Volunteers were among the first units formed during the “invasion scare” of 1859, making this a significant piece of Scottish military history.
