Description: Up for sale is a 100% authentic, highly collectible late Victorian/Edwardian era 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment cap badge. Struck in crisp white metal, this premium piece features the classic Maltese cross design with the iconic hart crossing a ford at its center. Crucially, it features the distinctive, factory-applied upper scroll marking it specifically to the 3rd Volunteer Battalion.
The front face features sharp, uncleaned definition and displays an excellent, authentic age-toned tarnish across the white metal work. The reverse confirms its authentic construction, showing the neatly braised joins where the upper scroll was fixed at the factory.
Historical Background:
The Volunteer Battalions were part of Britain’s early citizen-soldier reserve forces before the sweeping Haldane Reforms established the Territorial Force in 1908. Headquartered at Bedford, the 3rd Volunteer Battalion was an elite localized unit. Following the 1908 reorganization, these specific Volunteer Battalion badges ceased production entirely, making genuine survivors with intact multi-lug configurations incredibly scarce and highly prized additions to any advanced British infantry collection.

In excellent antique condition. The stamping remains very crisp and the lettering on both scrolls is completely clear and legible. On the reverse, all three original copper attachment loops are fully intact, straight, and rock-solid.
