Type: Other Ranks’ (OR’s) Glengarry Badge

Era: Victorian (Circa 1874–1881)

Material: Die-Stamped Brass

Fixing: Two Original Brass Lugs (Loops) in North-South orientation

Detailed Condition & Features:

This is a guaranteed 100% original Victorian-era glengarry badge for the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers. This specific pattern was worn for a very short period (1874–1881) before the 1881 Childers Reforms, making it a rare and highly sought-after piece for serious infantry insignia collectors.

Design: A large, crisp flaming grenade. The ball features a strap embossed with the regimental motto “QUO FATA VOCANT” (Whither the Fates call).

Center: Features a sharp, stencilled voided “5” in the center, a hallmark of genuine early strikes.

Authenticity: The reverse (as shown in photos) confirms this is a true die-stamped example with a hollow back and deep definition. This is NOT a modern solid-back restrike or a cheap reproduction.

Condition: Outstanding antique condition. It retains a deep, uncleaned brass patina with no repairs, cracks, or thinning to the metal.

Reverse: The two original brass lugs are firm and intact, which is rare for a badge of this age.
