Item Description
Up for sale is an authentic, original British Army Victorian era white metal cap badge representing the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers. This highly detailed, die-stamped insignia displays a large central numeral 9 superimposed over a pair of crossed lances with beautifully defined flowing swallow-tailed pennons. The entire structure is surmounted by a crisp Queen Victoria’s flat-topped Crown (QVC) at the top apex, with a flowing lower banner scroll cleanly inscribed with LANCERS. The reverse features its original configuration of three securely mounted copper wire attachment loops (3-lug pattern) used for stable helmet/cap attachment.
History & Era Context
The 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers was an elite cavalry regiment of the British Army. This specific crown profile identifies the piece as an early pattern worn during the final years of the Victorian era. During this time frame, the regiment deployed to active service as traditional cavalry forces across South Africa during the Second Boer War (1899–1902). The historic 3-lug fixing layout makes this a standout example of late-19th-century uniform insignia.
