Up for sale is an authentic, original British Army Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry Helmet Plate Centre. This circular brass insignia was designed to fit into the middle of the ornate star-shaped plates found on the front of late 19th and early 20th-century Home Service cloth helmets.
Up for sale is an authentic, original British Army Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry Helmet Plate Centre. This circular brass insignia was designed to fit into the middle of the ornate star-shaped plates found on the front of late 19th and early 20th-century Home Service cloth helmets.
The front face features stunningly sharp details on the central castle, feathers, and horn. It retains a beautiful, deep, uncleaned vintage brass patina that looks excellent on display.
Historical Background:
The Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry (DCLI) was formed on July 1, 1881, under the Childers Reforms. This specific helmet centre design was actively worn by the regiment’s regular battalions until the Home Service helmet began phasing out around the onset of World War I. This is a great piece of late Victorian West Country military heritage.
