Description: Up for sale is an authentic, original British Army Hampshire Regiment Helmet Plate Centre. This circular brass piece was worn by other ranks on the front of the classic blue cloth Home Service helmets from 1881 up until the dawn of the First World War.
The detailing on the central “Royal Tiger” and the stippled finish on the title scroll remain exceptionally crisp. The badge retains a beautiful, untouched, natural aged brass patina that collectors highly prize.
Historical Background: Following the 1881 Childers Reforms, the 37th (North Hampshire) and 67th (South Hampshire) Regiments of Foot merged to create the Hampshire Regiment. The iconic tiger featured on this badge was originally granted to the 67th Foot to honor their highly distinguished, grueling 21 years of continuous service in India.
