Item description
Up for sale is an original vintage theatre programme from the Glasgow Citizens’ Theatre production of “Jamie the Saxt”, the celebrated Scots history comedy by Robert MacLellan.
Staged at the historic Royal Princess’s Theatre, this program represents a major moment in mid-century Scottish drama under the artistic leadership of Producer Michael Langham. The inner title page features a striking central crest illustration of the play’s emblem drawn by the famous caricaturist Emilio Coia.
Fascinating Features Inside:
- Iconic Scottish Cast: Star-studded period line-up featuring a powerhouse cast of legendary Scottish performers, including Duncan Macrae (playing King James the Sixth), Roddy Macmillan, Andrew Keir, and Paul Curran.
- Production Context: Musical settings are explicitly credited “At the Two Pianos” by Margaret Rothwell and Sheila Lesseills, with costumes designed by the renowned theatrical costumiers NATHANS of London.
- Future Production Teaser: Features a bottom billing on the center page promoting their upcoming production of Philip King’s farce “See How They Run”.
- Vintage Local Advertising: Clean, sharp mid-century illustrated advertisements. Features Saxone Shops (Sauchiehall St & Buchanan St), Scottish Trust Hotels, McGavin’s Mavara Tea, Coopers Restaurant (Howard St), John Smith & Sons Booksellers, Paterson Sons & Co. (high-class reconditioned Steinway/Bluthner pianos and televisions), and a full back-page ad for the S.C.W.S. Co-op.
Condition Report:
The programme is in good vintage condition. The front and back covers remain exceptionally clean with no written owner names or dates. The pages show standard, light natural age-toning and mild edge handling wear. The binding structure is firm with the original staples intact but rusty, and there are no heavy internal stains or major tears.
