Item description
Vintage 1953 Citizens Theatre Glasgow Programme – The Laird of Torwatletie.
Up for sale is a beautiful, completely authentic vintage theatre programme from the historic Citizens’ Theatre in Glasgow, dating back to late 1953.
This rare piece of Scottish theatre ephemera features an incredible lineup of legendary local talent. Notably, it features Andrew Keir (who later found global fame starring in iconic Hammer Horror films and Quatermass and the Pit) and John Cairney (celebrated for his definitive solo portrayals of Robert Burns).
Beyond its theatrical history, the programme doubles as a wonderful time capsule of 1950s Glasgow culture. It is packed with charming, nostalgic local advertisements from the era, including Saxone Shoes (“Tread softly in WEEGIANS”), McGavin’s Mavara Tea, John Smith and Sons Limited, Patersons Pianos, and the S.C.W.S.
Condition:
The item is in excellent vintage condition given its age (over 70 years old!). The binding staples show expected light oxidization/rusting, and there is minimal edge wear, but the pages remain intact, clean, and crisp with beautiful color preservation on the covers. Please review the high-resolution photos provided to evaluate the exact condition.
