Item Description
Up for sale is the reverse-view confirmed 21st Lancers (Empress of India’s) brass cap badge. This piece features a vertical brass slider securely attached to the back, which is clearly stamped with the manufacturer mark of Marples & Beasley Birmingham.
The front of the badge features the classic cavalry design: a King’s Crown over the crossed lance pennants and the intertwined VRI royal cypher, with the Roman numerals XXI at the base. The reverse shows a clean hollow stamping profile. A wonderful, highly detailed space-filler for a British cavalry insignia display, shadow box layout, or manufacturer-marked collection.

Historical Background
The 21st Lancers achieved legendary status for conducting one of the last major British cavalry charges at the Battle of Omdurman in 1898, a battle in which Winston Churchill famously fought. Following the action, Queen Victoria granted them the title Empress of India’s and the right to display her VRI cypher. While the regiment was amalgamated in 1922, their iconic badges remain incredibly popular. This specific piece features the stamp of Marples & Beasley, a renowned Birmingham firm that produced official buttons, medals, and tokens throughout the World Wars.
