History
This original early 20th-century badge was worn by the 4th Volunteer Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment. Unlike the regular line infantry who wore bi-metal versions, the Volunteer Battalion wore this distinct all white metal pattern. The badge features Exeter Castle within a circular title ring. Below the castle is the regiment’s traditional motto Semper Fidelis which translates to Always Faithful. This piece is topped by the King’s Tudor Crown used during the First World War.
