Description – Up for auction is a 100% genuine, guaranteed original British Army Territorial cap badge for the Buckinghamshire Battalion (Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry). This is a beautiful, highly collectible piece of regional county militaria.

History – The Buckinghamshire Battalion was a distinguished Territorial Force infantry unit of the British Army, officially formed in 1908 during the Haldane Reforms. Raised from the 1st Buckinghamshire Rifle Volunteers, it operated as a specialized Territorial component structurally associated with the famous Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (the Ox and Bucks).

The Origins of the Swan Symbol

• The Maltese Cross: Inherited from the traditional rifle volunteer traditions that formed the backbone of the early Territorial movement.
• The Chained Swan: The central emblem is the legendary Buckinghamshire Swan. This iconic heraldic symbol dates back over 800 years to the Anglo-Norman era and was derived from the coat of arms of the ancient Staffords, the Dukes of Buckingham. It remains a proud symbol of the county to this day.
