Description
Up for sale is an authentic, original British Army bi-metal cap badge for The Dorsetshire Regiment. This highly detailed insignia features a central white metal castle with three towers and a hanging key, symbolizing the defense of Gibraltar. Directly above the castle rests the mythical Sphinx on a tablet inscribed with the battle honor “MARABOUT”. The central design is framed by a striking brass laurel wreath and a lower scroll reading “DORSETSHIRE”, intersected by a smaller motto banner displaying “PRIMUS IN INDIS”.

Item History
Formed in 1881, The Dorsetshire Regiment was a renowned line infantry regiment of the British Army. The badge contains unique battle honors: “Marabout” recalls their heroic actions in Egypt in 1801, while “Primus in Indis” commemorates them as the very first British army regiment to serve in India under Clive in 1754. This specific bi-metal design saw extensive service on frontline service dress caps and pith helmets through both World War I and World War II before the regiment was amalgamated in 1958.
