Description – Up for auction is a 100% genuine, guaranteed original British Army infantry East Surrey Regiment cap badge. This is an authentic piece of regional line infantry insignia dating from the World War I to World War II era.
History – The East Surrey Regiment was a highly decorated line infantry regiment of the British Army, officially formed in 1881 under the Childers Reforms. It was created by merging the 31st (Huntingdonshire) Regiment of Foot and the 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot. The regiment maintained an outstanding combat record, earning a reputation for incredible resilience on the battlefield.
The Story Behind the Symbols
Every element of this badge represents a deep connection to the county of Surrey:
- Guildford Castle: The central shield features a detailed depiction of the historic keep of Guildford Castle, an ancient Royal palace and county landmark. This emblem was inherited directly from the old Surrey Militia.
- The Eight-Pointed Star: A traditional military layout used to frame regional and county emblems with distinction.
- The King’s Crown (Tudor Crown): Surmounts the star, representing the regiment’s direct devotion and service to the British Sovereign.
