Item Description – Up for sale is a genuine British Army blackened brass collar badge for the Gloucestershire Regiment, famously nicknamed “The Glorious Glosters”.
This original piece features the detailed Sphinx resting on an EGYPT campaign battle honor tablet, centered inside laurel leaf sprays with the lower GLOUCESTERSHIRE title scroll.
The reverse side shows its two original, unbent copper wire fixing loops fully intact and undamaged. The item features a striking blackened dark finish applied over the base brass metal, which has been left uncleaned to preserve its vintage history. Please see the photos for a full look at the physical condition. It will be safely packaged and shipped to you quickly.
Item History
This version of the badge features a blackened brass finish over a single-piece metal construction. It was worn proudly by soldiers during the First World War (WW1). The two copper loops on the reverse were used to pin the badge horizontally onto the uniform collar.
The Sphinx motif and the EGYPT designation celebrate the regiment’s historic 1801 campaign victories against Napoleon’s forces. The Gloucestershire Regiment fought heroically across major fronts during the Great War, including the Western Front, Gallipoli, and Mesopotamia.
