Description
Up for sale is an authentic, original British military cap badge from the First World War for the Grenadier Guards. This design features their iconic 17-point multi-tiered flame burst exploding from a rounded bomb base. This specific Great War example retains its classic dark black painted layer, which was historically applied directly to bright brass pieces for active field service camouflage to prevent reflections.
The reverse side shows a distinct hollow-stamping and houses the original pair of dual copper fixing loops securely attached to the back of the lower flame wings, spaced exactly 25mm apart. This is a fantastic piece for collectors of elite British Guards regiments, trench-era field variations, or early 20th-century tactical militaria.

Item History
The 1st Regiment of Foot Guards was awarded the title “Grenadiers” by Royal Proclamation in 1815 to honor their historic defeat of Napoleon’s Imperial Guard at the Battle of Waterloo. Along with the name, they adopted the French flaming grenade insignia. During World War I, bright brass insignias were frequently blackened using paint or chemical toning to prevent enemy snipers from spotting reflection glares in the trenches. This 17-flame pattern represents the classic field badge worn proudly by guardsmen throughout the 1914–1918 conflict.
