Item History
The Highland Regiment was a highly distinguished infantry formation within the Scottish division of the British Army. Known for their fierce fighting reputation, Scottish highland battalions raised a massive surge of volunteers during the Great War, serving with immense bravery on the Western Front. This large circular insignia format was traditionally worn affixed to the side of the iconic woollen Glengarry bonnets or Tam o’ Shanter headdress caps worn into the field by highland soldiers. The robust dual-lug configuration on the reverse side allowed a split pin to securely hold the heavy brass badge firm against thick woollen uniform fabrics.
