Description
Up for sale is an authentic, original early-pattern British Royal Air Force (RAF) cap badge issued for Other Ranks personnel, dating from the founding WWI / Interwar era. This historic piece features the classic intertwined “RAF” monogram focal point centered inside a beautifully detailed laurel leaf wreath. The entire design is crowned at the apex with the traditional early-to-mid 20th-century King’s Tudor Crown.
The reverse side shows a crisp hollow-stamping and houses the original pair of heavy dual copper fixing lugs securely attached on the left and right sides. These lugs are spaced exactly 30mm apart, meant to take a classic split-pin setup to secure the piece to an early-pattern service cap or side hat. This is a magnificent acquisition for early aviation historians, WWI collectors, or military insignia display cases.

Item History
The Royal Air Force was officially formed on April 1, 1918, during the final year of the First World War, by merging the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). This specific badge pattern replaced the older RFC/RNAS insignia and was worn by ground crews, mechanics, and airmen who built the foundation of modern military aviation. The robust construction and heavy copper fixing lugs on this specific example point directly to an early manufacture period before mass production techniques were streamlined later in WWII.
