Up for sale is an authentic, original British military cap badge for the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). This iconic design features a detailed, multi-flamed exploding grenade.
Up for sale is an authentic, original British military cap badge for the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). This iconic design features a detailed, multi-flamed exploding grenade.
The center of the grenade ball features a raised Tudor King’s Crown cleanly superimposed over a circular garter. Inside the garter is the traditional Tudor Rose, while the garter itself features the faint, classic motto “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense” (Shame on him who thinks evil of it). Measuring 52mm tall by 40mm wide, this all-brass/gilding metal variant was standard issue for regular infantry battalions during both World Wars.

History
Formed in 1685 by King James II, the Royal Fusiliers were originally raised to guard the artillery train at the Tower of London, earning them a deep, permanent connection to the City of London.
This specific King’s Crown pattern badge represents the regiment during its most massive expansions throughout the 20th century. During World War I, the Royal Fusiliers raised an incredible 47 battalions, serving with immense distinction at the Somme, Gallipoli, and Ypres. In World War II, the regiment fought heavily through the North African and Italian campaigns. Because the Royal Fusiliers were one of London’s premier premier fighting forces, their authentic World War era brass insignia remains a fundamental and highly collectible staple for any serious British military collector.
