The design features the Prince of Wales’s feathers, coronet, and scroll reading “ICH DIEN” at the top, superimposed over the Duke of Cambridge’s coronet and cypher. This core is beautifully framed by a detailed laurel wreath. The central horizontal scroll commemorates the regiment’s legendary battle honor “ALBUHERA”, while the sprawling lower banner reads “MIDDLESEX REGT”. Measuring 40mm wide by 48mm tall, it features its original dual reverse fixing loops positioned exactly 25mm apart.

History
Nicknamed “The Die-Hards,” the Middlesex Regiment earned its formidable reputation at the Battle of Albuhera in 1811 during the Peninsular War, where Colonel William Inglis famously rallied his wounded men to “die hard” against crushing French forces.
This specific OSD bronze badge captures that rich heritage and was worn by commissioned officers on their service dress caps throughout the monumental campaigns of the First and Second World Wars. From the muddy trenches of the Western Front in WW1 to the beaches of D-Day and the defense of Hong Kong in WW2, officers leading the battalions of the Middlesex Regiment proudly wore this insignia.
