The Middlesex Regiment was a renowned infantry unit that raised dozens of battalions during the Great War, serving heavily on the Western Front at the Somme and Ypres. While standard enlistees wore brass or bi-metal insignia, commissioned officers were uniquely prescribed these darkened bronze badges to accompany their service dress caps in the field. The badge beautifully displays their famous Albuhera battle honour, an homage to their historic Peninsular War stand where they earned their timeless nickname, The Die-Hards.
