Up for auction is a 100% genuine, guaranteed original British Army North Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales’s) cap badge. This is the highly collectible all-brass “Economy Pattern” issued during World War I to streamline factory manufacturing and conserve materials.
History
The North Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales’s) was a distinguished line infantry regiment of the British Army, active from 1881 to 1959. The badge beautifully combines the ancient Anglo-Saxon Staffordshire Knot with the iconic Prince of Wales’s Feathers crest. This specific all-brass variation is a genuine artifact of the First World War. Introduced by the War Office in April 1916 as an “Economy Issue,” it was simplified into a single metal to speed up wartime production and save raw materials. Badges exactly like this one were proudly worn by local Staffordshire men serving in the trenches of the Western Front and at Gallipoli.
