WW1 Queen’s Royal Regiment West Surrey Cap Badge Paschal Lamb Solid Brass Origin

This is a genuine, antique British military cap badge for the historic Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey). Beautifully struck in solid brass, this badge features the ancient and distinct emblem of the Paschal Lamb. The lamb is depicted with a detailed nimbus halo, raising its right foreleg to hold a flag staff topped with a spearhead, carrying a flag bearing the Cross of St. George. The lamb stands cleanly atop a textured twisted torse/bar. The reverse side features the correct, original long solid brass vertical slider mounting arm. The Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey) was the senior English line infantry regiment of the British Army, originally raised in 1661 as the Tangier Regiment. The Paschal Lamb was their traditional emblem, allegedly adopted from the coat of arms of Queen Catherine of Braganza. During World War I, the regiment expanded significantly, raising 25 battalions that fought with incredible valor on the Western Front (including the Somme and Ypres), Italy, Gallipoli, and Mesopotamia. This solid brass pattern with the slider back was the quintessential badge worn proudly on the service dress caps of Surrey riflemen throughout the Great War era.
