Item Description
Up for sale is an authentic, original British Army World War I era solid brass cap badge representing the Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own) Yeomanry Regiment. This particular piece is a genuine 1916 wartime economy pattern struck completely in a single piece of heavy brass, rather than the standard peacetime bi-metal design. The front depicts the classic Yorkshire Rose detailed beneath the Prince of Wales plumes, crown, and motto banner scroll. The reverse side features its original, long, completely unaltered straight brass fixing slider.
History & Era Context
The Yorkshire Hussars was a historic yeomanry cavalry regiment originally raised in 1794. During World War I (WW1), the regiment saw active deployment, sending its squadrons to fight on the Western Front in France and Flanders. To streamline production lines and preserve critical materials during the height of the war effort, the War Office sanctioned these solid, single-strike brass “Economy Issue” versions starting in 1916.
