Up for sale is an authentic, 100% original British military cap badge for the Highland Light Infantry (HLI), dating to the Second World War. This striking, multi-layered insignia features the textured Star of the Order of the Thistle as its backdrop, superimposed with a classic infantry bugle horn. The center of the horn encircles the traditional HLI monogram, while the bottom display includes the iconic battle honor scroll reading “Assaye” directly above a beautifully detailed elephant figure.
The reverse side shows a clean hollow-stamping and houses the original pair of dual copper fixing loops securely attached to the horizontal wings. Item History
The Highland Light Infantry was a renowned light infantry regiment of the British Army. During World War II, battalions of the HLI fought with immense distinction across major global theaters, including the Battle of France, the North African campaign, the Allied landings in Sicily and Italy, and the advance through North-West Europe following D-Day. The unique elephant emblem and the “Assaye” honor scroll commemorate the regiment’s legendary bravery at the Battle of Assaye in India (1803) under the Duke of Wellington. This King’s Crown pattern represents the genuine white-metal badge worn proudly by these Scottish soldiers throughout the 1939–1945 conflict.
