"Used / Very Good Vintage Condition. This classic Scottish cavalry badge is in wonderful structural shape with no bends, warping, or crushing to the delicate feathers or scroll tips. History of the Insignia
The Lanarkshire Yeomanry holds a highly distinguished and celebrated legacy in the British Army, originally raised in 1819 as a volunteer cavalry formation. The choice of the majestic double-headed eagle on the badge is highly symbolic, reflecting the traditional civic crest and municipal arms of the Royal Burgh of Lanark.
This insignia features the King’s Crown, indicating production and active service wear prior to 1953. The vertical brass slider reverse setup was the standard military issue style for secure cap attachments during the interwar and WWII eras. The regiment served with great distinction as dismounted cavalry during the First World War across Gallipoli, Egypt, and the Western Front. Upon mobilization for the Second World War, the unit underwent a tactical conversion into the Royal Artillery, providing the 155th and 156th (Lanarkshire Yeomanry) Field Regiments. These units fought bravely through heavy combat operations in Malaya, Sicily, Italy, and Northwest Europe. The regiment was eventually amalgamated into the Queen’s Own Lowland Yeomanry in 1956, making this individual pattern a highly collectible pre-amalgamation artifact.
