Item Description
Genuine WWII British Army Somerset Light Infantry Cap Badge – ‘Jellalabad’
Up for sale is an authentic, original World War II era British Army cap badge representing the historic Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s).
This badge is crafted from high-quality white metal and features the regiment’s highly distinguished, unique layout. It prominently showcases the “JELLALABAD” battle honor scroll over a mural crown, celebrating one of the regiment’s most legendary defense actions. Below the crown is the bugle horn tied with strings around the monogrammed letters “PA” for Prince Albert.
Measuring 42mm x 40mm, this standard other ranks’ badge is fitted with its original, solid brass rear slider bar. As shown in the reverse-side photographs, the factory braze work remains entirely intact and sound. A perfect addition to any WWII militaria collection, family history display, or British line infantry collection.

History About the Item
The Somerset Light Infantry was a senior infantry regiment of the British Army tracing its origins back to 1685. In 1842, following their heroic actions in the First Anglo-Afghan War, the regiment was granted the title “Prince Albert’s” and authorized to wear the mural crown and a scroll inscribed “JELLALABAD”.
This honor commemorates the grueling, historic Defense of Jellalabad, where the regiment held out against overwhelming Afghan forces during a bitter five-month siege. The “PA” initials stand directly for Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, and the bugle horn is the universal insignia used by elite British Light Infantry units to denote their fast-marching history. This specific white-metal layout was worn proudly throughout the heavy mobilizations of World War II until the regiment was ultimately amalgamated in 1959.
