Description: Up for sale is a genuine, original cap badge for The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) infantry regiment. This insignia features the iconic multi-pointed Douglas star (mullet) sitting atop a stringed light infantry bugle horn, beautifully enclosed within a traditional wreath of Scottish thistles.
Historical Background: Formed under the Childers Reforms in 1881, The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) was created by merging the historic 26th Cameronian Regiment and the 90th Perthshire Light Infantry. It was unique as the only rifle regiment among the Scottish infantry. The design reflects this combined heritage: the central star honors the ancient coat of arms of the Douglas family (who raised the original 26th of Foot in 1689), while the bugle represents their Light Infantry tactics. The regiment chose to disband in 1968 rather than lose its historic identity through amalgamation.
