Up for sale is an authentic, rare vintage WW2 British Army Lowland Regiment Cap Badge. This iconic Scottish insignia features a beautifully detailed, prominent Scottish thistle plant at the center, superimposed over a bold St. Andrew’s Saltire cross. Layered across the bottom of the saltire are twin folded motto scrolls boldly bearing the unit title “LOWLAND REGIMENT”.

Struck in solid white metal, the reverse side features its original dual copper wire attachment loops (lugs) spaced exactly 26 mm apart. This short-lived wartime training emblem serves as an elite centerpiece for WWII historians, Scottish ancestry researchers, or advanced militaria display collections.

Used / Very Good Vintage Condition. This rare World War II insignia remains in magnificent structural shape with absolutely no crushing, warping, or clipping along the edges of the saltire cross arm points. The front facade retains its crisp details on the textured seeds and leaves of the central thistle, and the texturing within the title tracks is perfectly crisp. The reverse side clearly shows the clean, mirror-image die-struck indentations. It displays a beautiful, untouched silver-grey aged patina with light authentic surface toning and minor oxidation inside the deep recessed corners. The two copper wire lugs are firmly fixed, sturdy, and completely intact. The Lowland Regiment holds a highly unique, brief position in the lineage of the British Army. Exactly like its sister formation (the Highland Regiment), it was formed by the War Office in January 1942 to serve as a consolidated, centralized basic training and recruitment formation for the historic infantry regiments of the Scottish Lowlands (including the Royal Scots, Royal Scots Fusiliers, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and the Cameronians).

Because the tactical structure shifted rapidly during mid-war mobilizations, the dedicated training regiment was officially disbanded in 1944 after a brief two-year existence. Due to this exceptionally short operational window, very few original white metal badges were struck compared to standard permanent infantry units. The dual copper lug reverse setup was the standard military issue style for Scottish Glengarry caps. This makes the thistle saltire insignia one of the hardest-to-find, premier Home Front and training artifacts of the Scottish wartime era.
