Description: For sale is a rare and highly collectable original World War II Upper Thames Patrol (UTP) cap badge. This specialized branch of the Home Guard was responsible for patrolling the non-tidal reaches of the River Thames from 1940 to 1944.
Item Details: Unit: Upper Thames Patrol (Home Guard).
Design: Features the iconic King’s Crown over two conjoined shields (from the Thames Conservancy arms), with a sword, fouled anchor, and the “UTP” initials at the base.
Construction: This is a genuine die-stamped brass badge. The reverse shows the crisp “mirror image” detail characteristic of original wartime production, rather than the blurred details found on modern cast reproductions.
Fastening: Fitted with its original long vertical slider (shank), which is firm, straight, and securely brazed to the body. This is the correct fitting for the Field Service or Side Cap.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with a deep, natural aged patina. The strike is sharp, and all details remain clearly defined. Please study the high-resolution photos of both the front and reverse to confirm the quality and authenticity of this piece.
A “good scarce” badge that is a must-have for any serious collector of Home Guard or WW2 British coastal/river defense insignia.
