Directly below the dragon sits a sweeping ornamental banner scroll inscribed with the iconic regimental title “THE BUFFS”. Struck from solid brass, this original field-issued badge features the highly sought-after twin wire loop lug configuration on the reverse side spaced at 18mm apart, making it a stellar addition for any dedicated WWI British line infantry collection or military insignia display.

Item History
The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), historically designated as the 3rd Regiment of Foot, was one of the oldest and most senior frontline infantry regiments in the British Army, tracing its lineage back to 1572. The unique dragon badge emblem was officially awarded to the regiment by Queen Elizabeth I to honor their ancestral origins from the famous London Trained Bands. During the Great War, the regiment raised 16 battalions that fought with incredible bravery across the Western Front, Gallipoli, and Mesopotamia. The traditional lugged fastening seen on this piece was standard for secure attachment to both standard peaked service caps and tropical pith helmets.
