Description
Up for sale is an authentic, all-brass World War I economy issue cap badge for The Leinster Regiment. This historic piece features the detailed Prince of Wales’s plumes rising out of a decorative coronet crown. The upper angular scroll displays the traditional motto “Ich Dien” (“I Serve”), while the lower straight-edged scroll firmly bears the unit name “The Leinster”.
The reverse side houses the original, long vertical attachment slider which remains strong and unbent. Unlike the common bi-metal versions, this all-brass variation is a scarce example manufactured during the metal shortages of the First World War. This serves as an excellent acquisition for collectors focusing on Irish regiments, WWI insignia, or British Army militaria.

Item History
The Prince of Wales’s Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) was a renowned line infantry regiment of the British Army formed during the Childers Reforms of 1881. It recruited primarily from counties within the Irish province of Leinster. Due to the unique political shifts in Ireland, the regiment was officially disbanded in 1922. This rare all-brass “economy” design was uniquely stamped out during the peak mid-war years of World War I (circa 1916) to conserve precious nickel and white metal supplies for the war effort.
