Original WWII 1945 Real Teatro di San Carlo Opera Programme – Carmen
Up for sale is an incredible, historic piece of World War II military and cultural history. This original opera programme was printed for a staging of Georges Bizet’s Carmen during the 1944–1945 season at the world-famous Real Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.
Following the Allied liberation of Southern Italy, the historic opera house was placed directly under the control and administration of the British Military Authorities. These unique programmes were produced primarily for allied troops stationed in occupied Naples.
The interior features the complete operatic cast list including Amalia Pini in the title role, Augusto Ferrauto as Don José, Antonio Manca Serra as Escamillo, and Maria Tozzi as Micaela, under the musical baton of Maestro Franco Patanè. It also includes comprehensive synopsis details printed in English alongside portrait photographs of the primary performers.
An exceptionally scarce addition to any library of WWII home front ephemera, British military history archives, or European operatic memorabilia.
